Crooked Hillary and Bad Republicans

“Don’t they believe in anything? Don’t they have any values?”
So asked Richie, my good friend and a staunch Republican conservative. He was referring to Maine Sen. Susan Collins and other Republicans who are rejecting Donald Trump in favor of Hillary Clinton.

Like Richie, I am really amazed at the number of Republican heavy hitters who are thumbing their nose at Trump and the 14 million Americans who voted for him in the primaries.

Instead of expressing their dismay by voting for a third party candidate, or going the write-in route like Miami Republican Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, who plans to write-in Jeb Bush, they are prepared to make a 180-degree political turn and vote for a person who is diametrically opposed to much of what they have said they believe in as Republicans for years.
So who are these GOP establishment insiders? Here is a partial listing:
  • Former Environmental Protection Agency head under Nixon, William D. Ruckelshaus
  • Former South Dakota Republican Sen. Larry Pressler
  • Richard Armitage, former deputy secretary of state under George W. Bush
  • Brent Scowcroft who served four Republican Presidents
  • Ken Edelman, U.S. arms control director under Reagan
  • Henry Paulson, Treasury secretary for George W. Bush
  • Maine Sen. Susan Collins
We can make some assumptions about a few: that Ruckelshaus loves the Obama EPA so much that he wants more of the same under Clinton; that Armitage, Scowcroft and Edelman are ecstatic over the Obama-Clinton foreign policy; and, that Paulson must really love the Obama economy which Clinton defends and would give us more of the same and even worse.
Is Trump so bad that Republicans would abandon their own basic values and principles and support Clinton?
Polls show that significant numbers of Americans think their way of life is threatened and that the country is on the wrong track.
So why would so many supposedly enlightened Republicans be willing to surrender the country to a person and party whose political philosophies reflect many of the very positions causing such feelings?
These defectors are willing to cut off their philosophical noses to spite their anti-Trump political faces and jeopardize the country!

As I have said before, they are willing to jump in bed with Planned Parenthood, organized labor, the National Organization of Women, the Black Lives Matter-hate the police movement — and others — and vote for Hillary.

Many of these defectors will say they are the “enlightened” Republicans who have always supported the sanctity of human life and GOP alternatives to helping our cities, minorities, the poor and disenfranchised, as opposed to liberal Democratic solutions which have left major portions of our cities to wallow in violence-ravaged neighborhoods, poor schools, and despair.

They will also say that they support transparency and integrity in government.
If so, why in the world would they vote for Hillary Clinton who, among other things, benefits from a politicized Justice Department that shields her from investigation into possible “pay for play” illegalities with the Clinton Foundation; and is in the pocket of the abortion lobby where virtually all forms of abortion are acceptable?

She also follows the mandate of the teachers unions that oppose vouchers and parental choice so poor students can escape from failing schools. She wants a “y’all come” European style open borders policy depriving Americans, particularly black and Hispanic youth, of jobs and threatening national security.
And she jeopardized national security and risked lives with her email scandal and lied to the families of the victims of the Benghazi massacre.

This is whom these Republicans want as president? So much for values!

My Newsmax Insiders colleague, Dr. Alveda King, sums it up nicely in her recent Newsmax Blog “Civil Rights Today”: “Voting on the issues trumps evil hearts and personalities . . . let's overlook personal personality preferences; vote for the candidate with the greater potential to deliver on the issues most closely aligned with our faith and what is good for America . . . ” (even though the) . . . “choice may be uncomfortable.” She listed several issues including “sanctity of human life, procreation . . . safe borders . . . sustainable values based education, family stability, and a God-guided U.S. Supreme Court.”
By voting for Clinton, these Republicans have turned their backs on these issues as well as choice in schools and safe neighborhoods. Forget the Supreme Court and control of the House and Senate.
They don’t like Trump so the country be damned.

Some would say that they are political hypocrites. I would submit that “political Benedict Arnolds” might be a more apt description.
